Office of Financial     Aid at the Univer- sity of Texas at Austin

TELEPHONE INFORMATION ASSISTANT | FRONT COUNTER ASSISTANT

September 2013 - July 2015

I was part of the inaugural group of students to take on the role of Telephone Information Center Assistant - a role that had only been filled by full time financial aid counselors.

After 6 months of employment I was nominated for the UT Austin President's Student Employee of the Year award, an honor where only 53 student employees were nominated out of over 1200 student employees at UT Austin.

Having started out as a Telephone Information Center Assistant I answered 15+ calls a day from UT Austin students (all levels), alumni, parents, and high schoolers where I safeguarded confidental information, troubleshooted issues, examined student files, and was tested weekly to maintain financial aid knowledge.

Having exceeded expectations I was one of the first 3 student employees to be promoted to a Front Counter Assistant where I worked alonside full time counselors and worked with visitors on a face-to-face basis.

As a Front Counter Assistant I met with anywhere from 3 - 30+ visitors a day and had equal amount of responsiblity as full time counselors. The only difference was that I could not change a student's file apart from leaving notes.
